Transitions

Add a transition at a cut, preview its motion, and return to a clean cut when needed.

#Add a transition between scenes

During a drag, transitions use a labeled cue and a cut marker. They are inserted at the boundary between scenes; they do not become a media thumbnail or a new timeline clip.

  1. Choose the cut

Hover a boundary between media scenes and click its cut control to open Transitions. You can also select the incoming scene and open Transitions from the tool rail.

  2. Pick a preset

Click a transition card to apply it to that incoming edge, or drag a transition card to a cut on the timeline.

  3. Play across the boundary

Start before the cut so you can see the outgoing scene, transition, and incoming scene together.

#Choose a transition preset

Preset durations are fixed in the current panel. Hover the preview cards to compare their motion, then review them with your own footage. Effect transitions are shown separately from the basic transitions.

PresetDuration
CutInstant change, without a transition effect.
Dissolve0.5 seconds.
Slide L, Slide R, Slide Up, Slide Dn0.5 seconds each.
Zoom0.5 seconds.
Wipe L, Wipe R0.5 seconds each.
Blur0.4 seconds.
Film Burn0.72 seconds.
Light Leak0.8 seconds.
Signal Tear0.64 seconds.

#Change or remove a transition

Select the incoming clip and choose another preset to change its transition. Choose Cut to remove the effect. You can also click an applied transition marker on an unselected clip’s cut to return to a clean cut.

When the clip is selected, trim handles can occupy the same edge as the cut control. Open Transitions from the tool rail if the boundary control is difficult to reach. Zoom in if the cut is too narrow to select comfortably.
